Salisbury and Stonehenge 2-day Tour
2 full days spent exploring the medieval city of Salisbury and the world famous prehistoric stone circle of Stonehenge.
Day 1
After meeting at Salisbury railway station, we begin our day with a visit to the Early English Gothic Cathedral of Salisbury, with the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft).  Visitors can take the "Tower Tour" where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)). The cathedral contains the world's oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta. After our visit to the cathedral, there will be time for lunch and time to explore the ancient city of Salisbury, founded as ‘New’ Sarum in 1220.  There will also be plenty of time to visit the local museums, as well as exploring this fascinating medieval city.
Day 2
After breakfast, we visit Old Sarum, the site of the earliest settlement of Salisbury. Originally an Iron age hill fort strategically placed on the conjunction of two trade routes and the River Avon, the site contains evidence of human habitation as early as 3000 BC. There will be plenty of time to view  and explore the other nearby monuments such as Woodhenge, The Cursus and nearby barrow cemeteries.  We finish our day with a private access visit to Stonehenge, an opportunity limited to a handful of visitors, where your guide will delve into understanding this enigmatic and ancient monument.  One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within a series of earthworks. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
Day 3
After another splendid breakfast we run you back to the railway station, however there is the opportunity to add an extra day to visit Bath, Wells and Glastonbury.
Cost = $200 per person/day and does not include accom or meals. We will customise the itinerary to meet your wishes and needs.
